SUMMARY:The Shooting Star of Starr County: An Out of this World Discovery
DESCRIPTION:The Museum of South Texas History presents “The Shooting Star of Starr County: An Out of this World Discovery” exhibit\, opening in the 1910 Jail Cell Block Gallery Friday\, Sept. 20.  \nOn Feb. 15\, 2023\, meteorites landed on a ranch near the town of El Sauz in Starr County\, Texas. The meteorites found on the ranch were documented and collected by expert and amateur meteorite hunters. The exhibit will highlight a two-fold story: how meteors fell through the sky across Europe and the United States before crash landing on a ranch in South Texas and the history of space rocks. Several meteorite pieces found on the ranch property will be featured behind state-of-the-art cases with a 360-view.    \n“The Shooting Star of Starr County: An Out of this World Discovery” exhibit is made possible in part by a grant from The Betty C. Kelso Foundation. It opens Friday\, Sept. 20\, and closes August 2025.   \nThis exhibit is included in the regular museum admission fees. SUMMARY:City of Edinburg Lighting of the Tree
DESCRIPTION:It’s time to bring out your Santa hats! The City of Edinburg invites the community to join in on the holiday cheer this year at the annual Lighting of the Tree and the Night of Lights Parade. \nThe community is encouraged to mark the start of the holiday season in Edinburg at the Promenade Park Amphitheater on Thursday\, December 5\, 2023\, at 6:00 p.m. for the Lighting of the Tree ceremony. The event features the city’s beautiful 30-foot energy-efficient LED Christmas tree\, which will remain illuminated for the remainder of the year for visitors to enjoy\, as well as carolers\, music performances\, and dance presentations. \nResidents can also get their holiday shopping done early at the Edinburg Christmas Market immediately following the Lighting of the Tree. Vendors will have Christmas gifts\, decor for sale\, and pictures with Santa. In addition\, to emulate an amazing Winter Wonderland\, attendees can enjoy a fun train ride\, carnival rides\, and a petting zoo – all you can ride wristbands for kids are just $5.

This year’s Fiesta de Nochebuena will feature some familiar favorites including Posada Por Tiempo\, a walk through the River Frontier and Highway galleries\, singing the traditional “Pedir Posada” song. Cowboy Santa will make an appearance to take photos with those wishing to capture their memorable time at MOSTHistory. Expect more activities such as ornament making\, piñata hitting and holiday shopping. Performances will include groups from Edinburg CISD and the Matachines from Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in McAllen. We hope to see you here!
